Why “Helping in Public” Beats Posting About Yourself Online

When real estate agents start posting online, most default to this:

Just listed photos.
Closing selfies.
Laptop-at-the-coffee-shop “grind” shots.
“Another happy client” with no context.

Here’s the problem: that shows you’re active, but it doesn’t show how you think.

And if you want trust, listings, or leverage beyond transactions, people need to see your process, not just your presence.

The Power of Helping in Public

Helping in public means showing how you solve real problems in real time.

When you record yourself answering a buyer’s question, breaking down a contract clause, or walking through a pricing decision, you do three things at once:

You build trust.
People see how you think, not just what you post.

You make it relatable.
The person you’re helping represents dozens of silent viewers with the same question.

You prove value.
You’re not just “motivational” or “hustling.” You’re useful.

What This Looks Like for Real Estate Agents

Instead of posting:

“Just listed in Westbrook! 🔥”

Try:

Explaining why you priced it at $485K instead of $500K.

Instead of:

A photo at closing with keys and smiles.

Try:

Breaking down the one mistake this buyer almost made, and how you caught it.

Instead of:

“Market update, rates are crazy!”

Try:

A 60-second breakdown of what higher rates actually mean for a first-time buyer in your city.

That’s helping in public.

“Look at Me” vs. “Look at This”

“Look at me” content gets quick likes.
“Look at this problem and how we solved it” builds authority.

When someone sees you walk through:

  • How to prep a home for inspection

  • How to negotiate after appraisal comes in low

  • How to evaluate multiple offers strategically

…it becomes easier for them to picture you guiding them.

That’s the shift.

The Question to Ask Before Posting

Instead of:

“What should I post about today?”

Ask:

“What question did someone ask me this week?”

Then answer it on camera.

That’s your content.

Helping in public builds trust faster than polished branding ever will.
And for real estate agents, trust is the whole game.
